Causes of ENT problems

Ear, nose and throat infections are very common. The symptoms are usually mild, but infections can cause problems that need to be treated by an ENT specialist.

Common ear, nose and throat infections

  • Ear, nose and throat infections are often identified by the terms of location of the problem rather than the bacteria that is causing the infection.
  • Ear infections are outer, middle and inner ear infections. Inner ear infections are not so common as it is difficult for bacteria to reach this part of the ear.
  • Nasal infections affect the nasal passages and also the connected areas like sinuses.
  • Throat infections include tonsils or voice Problem(Because of larynx).

Sometimes the location of the infection is only needed to treat the symptoms. In some cases, it is necessary to identify the infection when the conditions are severe and the other parts of your body are affected too.

Different infections which affect your ear, nose and throat are

  • Common cold and flu viruses affects all the three areas but mostly affects the nose and throat.
  • Infections in chest can sometimes spread to your ears causing measles.
  • Mononucleosis and mumps affect the throat and sometimes may spread to the ears.

Strep throat is an infection caused by a specific type of bacteria known as streptococci.

ENT specialists can diagnose and treat problems of the throat which affects eating, swallowing and speech problems. Conditions such as trauma and tumors in the head are also treated by ENT specialists. ENT’s surgeons can perform and treat different medical conditions which are

Myringotomy

Tympanoplasty

This is a surgery involving the reconstruction of the eardrum under general/ local anesthesia. The eardrum is re-constructed using a graft from under the skin.

Mastoidectomy

This surgery is used to remove diseased mastoid air cells. This procedure requires the use of local/general anesthesia. This helps in achieving better hearing abilities in patients.

Endoscopic Sinus surgery

This surgery involves removing the blocks within the sinus. This is done to reduce the inflammation in the sinus and improve the sense of smell and taste.

Oral Biopsies

We offer oral surgeries and identify symptoms related to oral hygiene. Steps are taken to ensure that oral biopsies are performed in a highly sterile environment.

Septoplasty

Repairing a septum is a nasal surgery performed under general/local anesthesia. A small incision is made inside the nose and the bone in the centre of the nose is removed.

  • Tympanoplasty- This is a surgical process which is used to restore the process of hearing in the inner ear drum. Tympanoplasty is a process which is performed under local anesthesia.
  • Mastoidectomy- This surgery is used to remove diseased parts from the inner ear. The mastoidectiomy procedure requires the use of local anesthesia. This procedure generally performed over the period of one day and helps in achieving better hearing abilities in patients.
  • Endoscopic Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR)- This surgical procedure is designed to operate and remove the lacrimal sac or Naso Lacrimal Sac Duct Obstruction(NLDO). We first insert a decongestant and then administer anesthesia within the body which helps our surgeons perform the surgical procedures.
  • Endoscopic Sinus Surgery- This procedure is used to remove any types of blockades within the sinus. The endoscopy surgery procedure is performed to help reduce the inflammation in the sinus and relieve facial pain and improve the sense of smell and taste.
  • Oral Biopsies- We offer comprehensive oral biopsies which help dentists and surgeons identify and isolate specific symptoms which are related to oral hygiene. We use highly stringent procedures which ensure that oral biopsies are performed with the best hygienic and in the most sterile environment.
